Among scores of Disney apps, this is among the very best.
Why we like it -- When you’re on a Disney vacation with your kids, you need the organizational skills of a royal wedding planner. This app helps you pull it off, by telling you the wait times for all the rides, scouting out nearby food (including menus and prices), and showing the shortest distance between you and that next big ride. The app’s GPS feature nails your location quickly, and the informative park maps are easier to handle than the printed maps you’re constantly folding and unfolding at the park.
Improvements we’d like to see -- The ride information is too sterile. How about some real reviews from users, Zagat-style? Also, Disney veterans know how to work the Fastpass angles to get through lines quickly on popular rides, but sadly, this app ignores Fastpass completely. If it can offer intelligence on wait times, it should be able to offer similar info on Fastpass distribution times. While we’re on the topic: fans of “Mission: Space,” in Epcot, will note the app doesn’t show the wait times for the two subsections of the ride (including the tamer “Green” version). Still, for $5, Magic Guide is well worth the download.
