Find the cheapest gas prices near you!

Why we like it – If you’re on a road trip in an unfamiliar area, GasBuddy will point you in the direction of the cheapest gas or just point you away from a station with higher-than-average prices. The app’s layout is nicely designed, with prices for different grades of gasoline plus diesel.

Click on a particular station, and the app pulls open a Google map with directions. GasBuddy scores points for simplicity; tap a button, and it uses GPS to find the nearby stations, listing them in order of proximity or price. One more tap and you see the stations arrayed on a map.

Improvements we’d like to see – GasBuddy relies on users to list prices of stations in their town, so city drivers will find more useful data than rural travelers. Also, aside from Canada, the service lacks international coverage, and you need a network connection, so if you’re traveling remotely (Klondike Highway, anyone?) it may not work.
