Trusted advice for finding a restaurant on the road.
Why we like it -- While Zagat fans pay more than $10 for a single guidebook, mobile users can spend that much and get Zagat reviews for 45 destinations for a year. The app lets you sort restaurants according to décor, price, service or food quality, or use your GPS to find the closest eateries.
IPad users have it even better. The bigger screen gives you a fuller selection of restaurants at-a-glance, with graphics (and food photos) that pop. No matter the device, though, you can access the listings even when you have no network connection.
This feature makes it one of the better in-flight apps you’ll find. When you land and regain a data connection, use the app to reserve a table, and your dining schedule is all set.
Improvements we'd like to see -- BlackBerry users, who are accustomed to hit-or-miss app performance, could face similar issues here. Plus, depending on the restaurant, you may not be able to book a reservation with the app.
