Anthony Bourdain spends 24 hours in his hometown, NYC, the city that never sleeps. We picked a selection of Tony’s best tips from The Layover: New York episode -- be sure to check them out before your next trip.

NYC Airports
“We have 3 major airports: JFK, LaGuardia and Newark out in New Jersey. They all pretty much suck, and it’s a pain compared to a lot of other cities getting to and from them on anything even resembling mass transportation (the smartest way to go, in my opinion, especially if you have luggage). Look for signs for ground transportation, get on the taxi line and take a yellow cab.”

First Order of Business
"Go to a hotel and drop your bags … wandering around NYC with even an overnight bag is just … I don’t know … it’s just not done.”

Transportation
“Never look anyone in the eye on the NYC subway system, it’s not a safety issue anymore, but it’s really just polite.”

“Know this … 4 p.m. is shift change for the great majority of New York cabbies. Usually they are all on the way home and will only maybe pick you up if you are going their way. It can be very tough around this time to find a cab.”

What to Eat
“Personally, if I had only one night in New York … these days I’d probably come here. Date night at the Bourdains … here. Takashi on Hudson Street in the West Village is my favorite new restaurant in New York.”
