Galley Bay

Most of Galley Bay’s 98 rooms are dotted along an almost mile-long white sand beach, and all are surrounded by a 40-acre tropical paradise. The Gauguin Suites even offer private plunge pools. Romance continues at the Gauguin restaurant, as it contains private cabanas — the perfect backdrop for candlelit dinners before the evening entertainment. Galley Bay can even arrange a beachfront dinner with a customized menu. The resort also offers two honeymoon packages for next-level romance. Couples can opt for a private picnic on the beach with champagne, a couples massage and in-room setup of candles and flower petals.

Blue Waters Resort

Yes, Blue Waters is quite family friendly, but this award-winning resort caters to couples as well. (And occasionally royalty, as it hosted Prince Harry back in 2016.) Opt for deluxe beachfront rooms to enjoy quick access to one of three secluded beaches, or, for the ultimate in privacy, one of the resort’s Cove Suites. The latter provide exclusive access to an infinity pool, although there’s also a separate adults-only pool on the grounds. Watersports, spa treatments, yoga and tennis are some of the other ways couples can enjoy each other’s time. Come evening, grab a nightcap at Pelican’s Bar while listening to the waves crash and swaying to a steel drum band.

Cocobay Resort

Couples seeking a quieter, adults-only experience will find it at Cocobay Resort, a smaller property situated on a bluff, allowing for unparalleled water views. Quieter doesn’t mean boring though, and low-key activities encompass yoga classes, kayaking and snorkeling, or simply lounging by one of two pools or on the white sand beach. Live entertainment also livens up most evenings, where the action revolves around the popular Sheer Rocks restaurant. In fact, Sheer Rocks attracts guests from around the island, who come for its top-rated seasonal menu and glorious sunset views.

Sandals Grande Antigua Resort and Spa

Sandals have become synonymous with providing an all-inclusive couples getaway, and Sandals Grande Antigua Resort and Spa doesn’t disappoint. The sprawling 27-acre resort contains two sides for couples to choose from: the original, and quieter, Caribbean Grove section featuring pastel-colored lodging, and the newer Mediterranean Village side containing more bells and whistles. No matter which end couples choose, everyone has access to 11 restaurants, seven bars and six pools. Don’t want to share a pool? Some suites and villas come equipped with private ones, and offer butler service to boot. Butlers extend beyond rooms, reserving beach chairs and bringing drinks. Couples can also while away the hours at the spa, which offers an above-average number of couples treatments, such as the after-hours night blooming jasmine massage. Speaking of after hours, evenings offer a different form of entertainment each night, from cocktail parties and karaoke to live music and wine tastings.

Carlisle Bay

The five-star Carlisle Bay may not be adults only, but it has mastered the art of keeping couples and families happy. For example, ocean-view suites are arranged so that families and couples are located in separate areas, and restaurants are geared toward either couples (the beachfront Jetty Grill is adults only) or those with young children. And the sophisticated East restaurant requests that young families dine before a certain hour. In fact, Carlisle’s separate activity program for kids and teens equals a greater chance for solitude, whether on the beach or during other activities. Regardless, couples can maintain eyes for one another during fitness classes, watersports, or in the 17,000-square-foot spa.

Jumby Bay Island

Nothing says ultimate romantic escape like an all-inclusive island. The ultra high-end Jumby Bay Island is just two miles off the coast of Antigua, but thanks to its lack of cars and non-hotel guests, it feels wonderfully remote. Lodging options range from cottage rooms with four-poster beds and outdoor showers to spacious villas complete with a private pool. Both options include bikes or golf carts to navigate the 300-acre island. For the ultimate splurge, private homes even include a private chef and butler. Otherwise, there are four dining options around the resort island, from a beach shack serving local street food to formal dining in a 19th-century plantation house. There’s even a weekly barbeque beach party where everyone wears white and dances to a steel drum band. Spend downtime on the two private beaches that stretch for almost five miles, or rotate between the spa, watersports, tennis courts, pools and golf.

Curtain Bluff Resort

In a crowded field of five-star all-inclusives, Curtain Bluff distinguishes itself with excellent food, a well-stocked wine cellar, championship tennis court and two private beaches. Its 72 ocean-view rooms and suites are popular with couples and honeymooners, especially the beachfront rooms with immediate sand access. Although the secluded bluff suites, complete with a hammock and sweeping ocean views, aren’t too shabby either. While it’s not adults only, couples will find plenty of adult bonding activities, whether in wine-appreciation classes, spa treatments, cocktail hours or candlelit dinners followed by live music and dancing. Plus, the fitness center, where you can take free fitness classes, is for the over 18 set, and a separate children’s club keeps young guests busy, allowing for uninterrupted beach time while sipping hand-delivered coconut drinks.

Hermitage Bay

With just 30 suites, the five-star Hermitage Bay is a couples magnet, especially since it’s geared toward adults for most of the year. The hardest decision is deciding between a spacious beachfront or hillside suite; either way, you’ll find outdoor showers and colonial-style décor, although private plunge pools might tip the favor toward the latter. And unlike some tropical getaways, you can stay connected here with WiFi, a flat-screen TV and smartphone USB cable. Or stay unplugged with your partner enjoying the spa, freshwater pool, fitness center with free yoga and pilates classes, cooking classes, watersports and even a helicopter tour. And though there’s only one restaurant, evening brings candles and a live band. Take it to the next level by arranging a private dinner on the beach.

Inn at English Harbour

The boutique Inn at English Harbour claims an enviable location in one of Antigua’s National Parks, resplendent with verdant hills. Not only that, but the hotel overlooks both the English and Falmouth Harbours, while providing easy access to Galleon Beach. Access doesn’t get much better than from the luxurious Beach Cabana rooms, where white sand and palm trees beckon just beyond the queen-size bed. But there are also reasons to leave the room. The beachfront Reef restaurant is perfect for leisurely breakfasts and lunches, while The Terrace restaurant, with its views of English Harbour, is suited for formal candlelit dinners. Plus, it offers live entertainment and a theme night. Aside from resting and eating, couples can take advantage of watersports, a pool, tennis courts and even meditation sessions. For those desiring wow factor options, the Inn can arrange a yacht excursion, dinner on the beach serenaded by musicians, and even alone time on a deserted beach. This route provides beach chairs and umbrellas, chilled champagne, tapas and a marine radio for when you’re (reluctantly) ready to return to reality.

Hodges Bay Resort and Spa

Hodges Bay, Antigua’s newest hotel, just opened in the summer of 2018. Though family friendly, it will also appeal to couples with an adults-only pool, watersports, fitness classes and tennis. The resort can even arrange trips to the Old Sugar Mill ruins or a rainforest zip line experience. Over at the spa, couples treatments will of course be on offer, but unlike other resort spas, there will also be Ayurvedic options, medical treatments, a nutritionist, juice cleansing and more. After a night of fine dining and entertainment, retire to contemporary digs, with a choice of rooms, suites and villas — many with ocean views. Come morning, wander over to the breakfast buffet for the omelet station and hot-from-the-oven pastries. Later, break for a snack at the coffee shop/juice bar before repeating the day’s activities.
