The Most Instagrammed Cities of 2017
Instagram released its Year in Review report for 2017, and unsurprisingly, travel photos and videos were popular for the platform. The seventh most used hashtag was #travel. These cities took the top 10 slots as the most Instagrammed based on geotags.

10: Barcelona, Spain

Coming in at the ninth most Instagrammed city, Turkey's capital city Istanbul straddles Europe and Asia across the Bosphorus Strait. Istanbul lies at physical and cultural crossroads and has been an ever-evolving city, as evidenced in its architecture. The Orthodox Church Hagia Sophia (pictured) is an architectural beauty that has served as an important monument for both Byzantine and Ottoman Empires. Once a church, later a mosque and now a museum, Hagia Sophia became a UNESCO world heritage site in 1985.

Another city with a historic mix of cultures, Jakarta, Indonesia's capital has been influenced by Javanese, Malay, Chinese, Arab, Indian and European cultures in its architecture, language and cuisine. With a population of more than 10 million people and one of the fastest growing tourist destinations in the world, it's easy to see why Jakarta holds the number eight spot.
