5 Water Bottles You Need for Your Next Plane Trip
You don’t want to go to the airport without at least one of these clever reusable water bottles.
We all know that hydration is key when traveling by plane. The dry, recycled air inside the cabin can do a number on our bodies both inside and out, so it’s a must to carry a reusable water bottle unless of course, you like paying $3 a pop every time you get thirsty. Ouch.

In seeking out a good water bottle, you can keep it super simple or you can pick up a water bottle that not only keeps you hydrated, but that can also do double-duty, hiding your valuables or storing a few snacks. Here are five clever water bottles to consider for your next trip by plane.
The Hydaway is a fantastic find because it takes the bulkiness out of a water bottle. Not only does the Hydaway bottle collapse flat, making it easy to slip into a purse or backpack when not filled up with water, but it has a handle that can easily be hooked onto a carabiner. You can then attach the bottle to a belt loop or a rollaboard bag handle. Originally a Kickstarter project, the Hydaway bottle comes in three sizes, including a 12-ounce size for kids, and many different colors with fun names, like Bluebird, Bamboo and Midnight.
If you must carry a bottle of spring water, like Aquafina or Dasani, carry one that can also hide valuables, like cash and credit cards. Who would think to peek inside an inconspicuous-looking bottle of water for a $20 bill or a Visa card? Just unscrew the water bottle from the middle to reveal the secret compartment. Fill and drink water from the top of the bottle as you normally would. Simply toss the bottle in your backpack or purse when traveling and draw attention away from hidden valuables.
The Snack-DuO is marketed as a "pet hydration bottle," but don’t let that fool you because it’s perfect for kids and families. Fill one side with water and the other side with snacks, like Goldfish crackers or cereal puffs. The water bottle lid is a water-tight pop-up cap, so there’s no leaking when closed, which is more than you can say for the popular Snackeez snack and drink cup, which has a straw (totally going to leak all over the plane seat when it tips over). The Snackeez also holds far fewer snacks.
The Tritan Square by Clean Bottle is another successful Kickstarter project, and thank goodness it was because there’s a lot to like about this water bottle. For starters, it’s square. How many times have you or your kids dropped a water bottle only to watch it roll under the seat and down the aisle? So frustrating. Since it’s square, there’s no rolling. Even better, the bottle still fits in cup holders. Interestingly, the Tritan Square also opens on both ends, enabling the use of optional add-ons, like a fruit infuser and a water filter.
Another fun reusable water bottle that’s just right for traveling is the Vapur. The largest of four sizes can hold more than 50 ounces of water, but don’t call it a water bottle. It’s an "anti-bottle." The Vapur stands up when full of water, lays flat when empty and can easily be folded up and put away. You can’t do that with a traditional water bottle. It also has an attached carabiner, making it easy to hook the bottle to a bag or belt loop. Freeze the Vapur ahead of a long-haul flight for icy cold water all the way until touchdown.
