Find hot spots in faraway places before you need them.

Why we like it -- Want to get online while you’re on the road? You could wander around looking for a Starbucks or a library, or you can open Wi-Fi Finder. The app will sniff out your location -- or you can type it in, to avoid data charges -- and point out the closest hot spots (both free and paid).

Wi-Fi Finder, which is from JiWire, includes over 340,000 hot spots in 144 countries, so you have a good chance of connecting no matter where you are. You can filter the results to see only free hot spots in cafes, for instance, or libraries.

Improvements we'd like to see -- Android users have lately complained about connection issues, and we experienced the same frustrations with our Sprint EVO 4G. We'll hedge by using JiWire.com's mobile website in the meantime.
