Haunted Destination: Moon River Brewing Company
Savannah, GA
In 2003, Savannah, GA, was named the most haunted city in America by the American Institute of Paranormal Psychology, and many consider the current site of the Moon River Brewing Company to be the city’s most haunted building. Built in 1821, the former City Hotel welcomed upscale guests from the Yankee North … much to the dismay of Savannah locals. Some hotel guests were even met with violence if they refused to leave town. In 1864, the hotel closed its doors when General Sherman marched the Union Army through Georgia, and it sat – abandoned – until the 1990s, when it was transformed into a brew pub. The new owners quickly discovered, however, that a few of the old City Hotel’s guests have overstayed their welcome … by about 150 years. Staff and customers have witnessed beer bottles thrown around the room and have been violently pushed and slapped by unseen creatures. One particularly violent encounter occurred in the late 1990s, when a woman was violently pushed down a staircase from the third floor. Next time you’re in Georgia, visit Savannah for a beer at the Moon River Brewing Company – just be sure not to upset any invisible patrons.
