Parks-Bowman Mansion—New Orleans, Louisiana
Situated in New Orleans’ beautiful Garden District, the Parks-Bowman mansion offers a third-floor room with a beautiful balcony and a spectacular view of the city. While staying at the mansion, you catch a glimpse of a little girl with black hair and a yellow dress as she limps through the halls and hums a lullaby. She may even move your eyeglasses. The mansion’s owner believes the ghost is of a girl buried on the property.
Haunted Honeymoon Cottage—Jerome, Arizona
The revived copper mining town of Jerome, Arizona, has its share of resident ghosts, and one of the local suites for rent is the home base for a few of those spirits. According to the Airbnb listing, visitors to the guest suite report encountering several spirits, including a thin woman wearing white, a miner who appears to be grumpy, and a tall man with a top hat. Occasionally, visitors hear wind chimes on days with no wind.
The Chamber Apartment—York, North Yorkshire, United Kingdom
This 600-year-old apartment is behind the Trembling Madness pub in York. With room for 4 guests in an eclectically decorated flat, it is a shrine to history as well as a place where spirits still roam. Guests raved about their time at the apartment and confirmed some spooky happenings. “You felt like you had stepped back in time but [it] was edgy because of the possibility of a ghost encounter. Although I didn't sleep well (hearing all kinds of bumps in the night) we loved it,” one Airbnb review said.
David Stewart Farm—Gettysburg, Pennsylvania
Located four miles outside of downtown Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, the hundred-acre farm was once a makeshift field hospital filled with injured and dying soldiers as Union and Confederate troops clashed in the bloodiest battle of the American Civil War. Like so many places in Gettysburg, the farm is still haunted by the spirits of those who died. The current owner has owned the property for more than 30 years. “I will be your only "living" host, but there are many others who reside with me. They have lived at the farm for many many years, some for hundreds of years. Yes, the house is haunted, but they are all friendly!” she wrote.
The Lizzie Borden House—Fall River, Massachusetts
We all know the grisly poem about the teenage girl who murdered her parents in their home in 1892. That same home has been painstakingly preserved and is available for vacation rentals. Travelers can rent just one room or the entire house, and the official website details a variety of strange experiences reported by guests including “strange odors, voices, objects moving on their own, feeling touched at night, and footsteps, to seeing full-body apparitions.”
