Villa San Giacomo, Amalfi Coast
Perched on terraces high above the Amalfi Coast and the glittering Mediterranean, Villa San Giacomo boasts one of the region's few private pools. Sea breezes along the cliffs are especially sweet here, given the upper terrace's citrus trees, jasmine and bougainvillea. Party planners at San Giacomo can ask the kitchen staff to whip up a poolside brunch featuring fresh-squeezed juice and marmalade from the villa's own lemons and mandarin oranges.
Villa Licosa, Cilento Coast
On the western shore of Italy, Villa Licosa claims a portion of what connoisseurs call "one of the last stretches of unspoiled coast." The pool deck's jaw-dropping centerpiece? The ruins of a Roman fort.
Villa Il Campo, Amalfi Coast
A path through the trees leads guests to the spectacular pool and a panoramic southwestern sea view at Villa Il Campo, where the olive grove shades sunbathers. Though guests can drive straight to the villa itself (a rare luxury on the steep Amalfi Coast), gatherings there feel lifetimes away from the constraints of modern life.
Ca di Pesa, Chianti
In the Conca d'Oro near Panzano, Ca di Pesa and its award-winning vineyards are ready to indulge guests' fantasies of running off to Tuscany and opening a winery. Swimmers can dine on wood-fired pizza from the property's forno and sip house-made Chianti Classico as the sun sets over the rolling hills.
Casale Alto, Maremma
Just outside a harbor village with a million-dollar view of La Feniglia Beach, Casale Alto's patio is an ideal spot to people-watch. Pair that classic view with modern poolside entertainment; the villa's owner is a musician, and its sound system is fantastic.
Villa la Cassinella, Lake Como
Lined in mosaic tiles with gold leaf that reflects sunlight and moonlight, the show-stopping pool at Villa la Cassinella offers a view of Lake Como's Gold Coast from its dramatic deck. Parties at this ultra-private space are only accessible by boat.
Le Due Case, Umbria
The nearby town of Orvieto and high-speed trains to Rome and Florence give Le Due Case's visitors access to thousands of years of culture, while the villa's position at the tip of a promontory surrounded by walls and evergreens make a party on this pool deck feel like the only one in the world.
La Scuola, Val d'Orcia
Life at La Scuola, a converted '50s-era elementary school, revolves around its spa-like pool and huge indoor/outdoor living room and dining room. Updated and decorated with bamboo shades and countless cushioned corners, its candlelit terrace offers Eastern opulence and modern minimalism.
Oliveto, Val di Chiana
Oliveto and its manicured Tuscan gardens are the epitomai of refined rusticity. Bet you never thought you'd get to throw a pool party in the middle of a classical painting, did you?
Villa di Torno, Lake Como
This elegant, Neoclassical edifice has an exceedingly high-tech secret: With the push of a button, the patio at Villa di Torno descends and deepens, transforming a wading area with just inches of water into a properly heated swimming pool. To complete the sense that you and your guests are part of an international spy caper, the villa's proprietors suggest chartering a vaporetto (Venetian-style water taxi) to transport you around Lake Como from your private dock for the duration of your stay.
Villa d'Orcia, Val d'Orcia
California's Napa Valley does a respectable job of offering oenophiles luxurious digs, but you can't beat a private infinity pool in Tuscany. A designer-owned farmhouse turned luxury villa, Villa d'Orcia has a dining terrace for 20, an outdoor fireplace and wood-fired pizza oven, and that utterly unforgettable swimming spot.
Castello di Panzano, Chianti
Castello di Panzano is a 10-minute walk from the center of its bustling Tuscan hill town (and specialty foods and wines for aperitifs and dining alfresco on the patio by the shaded poolhouse), but its enclosed park — including woods, an olive grove and a traditional Italian garden — offers an entirely private view.
