Star Wars Honeymoon
Spend your honeymoon in a galaxy far far away. In the largest expansion in Disney parks history, new Star Wars-themed lands are coming to both Disneyland and Walt Disney World. And there’s a Star Wars-themed hotel in the works for Walt Disney World. "From the second you arrive, you will become a part of a Star Wars story!" said Bob Chapek, chairman of Walt Disney Parks & Resorts. If you can’t wait until 2019, Disney’s Hollywood Studios already has several attractions and special character weekends in May.
Game of Thrones Honeymoon
Game of Thrones has filmed all over Europe, from Iceland to Spain, but you can knock out a lot of spots in Northern Ireland such as Bregagh Road or as the locals call it, the Dark Hedges. If you have time to hop around on your honeymoon, check out our favorite filming locations.
Comic Con Honeymoon
Comic-Con has become so much more than comics. There’s no celebration of pop culture and pure fandom like it, from anime to sci-fi to new Cartoon Network shows. If a honeymoon isn’t enough, go all out and tie the knot in your favorite cosplay outfit. The 2017 festival included a pop-up Geek Love Chapel officiated by American Gods star Orlando Jones.
Doctor Who Honeymoon
Even though the Doctor Who pop-up exhibit closed in Cardiff, London still has plenty Doctor Who sites to see from film locations to The Who Shop for collectibles to a traveling TARDIS. Visit London says to keep an eye out around Earl’s Court Station.
Harry Potter Honeymoon
If you want a magical honeymoon, head to London. First stop: the Warner Bros. studio tour. You can easily spend an entire day looking at props, sets and wizard costumes from the blockbuster movies. It’s also one of the few places in the world, like Universal’s Wizarding World of Harry Potter, where you can drink authentic Butter Beer. If you have time, take the train from King’s Cross Station to Edinburgh, Scotland and pay homage to The Elephant House. It's the cafe where JK Rowling started it all.
Sherlock Honeymoon
Whether you’re a fan of the books, the movies or BBC’s Sherlock series, London’s Marylebone neighborhood is where to stay for all things Sherlock Holmes. Head to, yes, 221b Baker Street for the official Sherlock Holmes Museum and don’t miss the Baker Street subway station. It’s decked out with Sherlock Holmes tiles.
Twilight Honeymoon
While the town featured in Stephenie Meyer’s best sellers is Forks, Washington, most of the Pacific Northwest shots in the movies were filmed in Oregon. Take a road trip and explore popular sites such as Multnomah Falls, Cannon Beach and Oxbow Regional Park for the forest area where Bella tells Edward she knows what he is.
Twin Peaks Honeymoon
True Peaks Freaks should head to Snoqualmie, Washington for the real Twin Peaks experience, including The Great Northern Lodge with Snoqualmie Falls below. Though in real life, it’s called the Salish Lodge and Spa. Ask to stay in room 315. Check out more Twin Peaks locations here.
Disney Honeymoon
If you’re a mega Disnerd, you probably already know your way around Walt Disney World and Disneyland. Maybe you’re even having your wedding ceremony in the parks! So for your honeymoon, try something different and cruise with Mickey. I was recently invited by Disney Cruise Line to experience the Disney Magic. From surprise character greetings to Broadway-style shows to fireworks in the middle of the ocean, there really is a Disney difference.
Lord of the Rings Honeymoon
Road trip around New Zealand to see why filmmaker Peter Jackson chose the country to represent Middle Earth. You can visit The Shire in Matamata and walk through original sets from the films at Hobbiton Movie Set Tours. For more Tolkien tourism, check out our favorite Lord of the Rings film locations.
