Social media has transformed the travel industry and the way we approach traveling – how we decide where to go, what to do when we get there and what experiences to share with our friends, family and extended network. Instagram is a great place for discovering destinations to visit, and with the location feature and option to save collections, it can even serve as a trip planning tool. From hashtags that focus on food destinations to women’s travel to outdoor adventures to even camping with dogs, there’s a travel hashtag out there for every niche imaginable.  

Peruse these hashtags and accounts for endless wanderlust and tag your own photos to share your travels with the Instagram world.

#dametraveler

A woman named Natasia Wong started the hashtag #dametraveler, along with an Instagram account and blog, to build a global community that connects and inspires women to travel. On her site, Wong says she chose the name #dametraveler because dame, which means “the title of a woman who has been awarded of high ranking or of an empire,” exemplifies strength, fearlessness and courage. The Instagram @dametraveler has more than 373,000 followers and #dametraveler has been tagged more than 1.2 million times. 

#foodintheair

With an account of the same name, #foodintheair combines two of Instagram’s best things – gorgeous travel photos and delicious food. Travelers take photos with food raised in the air, usually with a beautiful destination in the backdrop. From waffles in Belgium to cheese in Italy, this hashtag will make you want to go places just for the food.

#lifeofadventure

This hashtag showcases all things adventurous and outdoorsy. Think camper vans, mountain landscapes, A-frame cabins, people hanging out in hammocks, suspension bridges, moody sunsets and more – all artfully composed. In 2014, Fabio Oliveira, an Australian-based photographer and filmmaker, started the lifestyle community of photographers and explorers with the Instagram account @livefolk and hashtag #lifeofadventure. @livefolk has 378,000 followers, and #lifeofadventure has more than 7.1 million tags. Peruse and use this hashtag for never-ending wanderlust. 

#campingwithdogs

For all the pet lovers who are also outdoor lovers, this hashtag is for you. Dogs are always cute, but imagine them decked out in Patagonia hanging out in a hammock – even more adorable. That’s what you’ll see on #campingwithdogs and the account @campingwithdogs. These adventurous pups will make you want to pack your gear and head out on a camping trip (with your furry friends, of course!) 

#beautifuldestinations

This hashtag from the account @beautifuldestinaitons shows beautiful photos of beautiful destinations all over the world. A man named Jeremy Jauncey started the account in 2012 with the hope of celebrating the beauty of the world and inspiring people to travel. Get lost scrolling on @beautifuldestinaitons’ page, which has more than 9.4 million followers, or perusing the 12.3+ million photos tagged with #beautifuldestinations.

#passionpassport

The #passionpassport tag and the account @passionpassport shares impactful stories about travel. The photos are breathtaking, but the captions of personal travel experiences make this tag and account even more worth following. Zach Houghton quit his corporate job in 2012, traveled the world and created the blog Passion Passport as a literal passion project in 2013 so he could find and share stories that captured the emotional side of travel. On Passion Passport, Houghton says, “I wanted to hear about who these people had met, what moments tugged at their heartstrings, where they had faced difficulties and what they had learned.” Today, more than 848,000 people follow @passionpassport and #passionpassport has been tagged more than 9.3 million times.
