Zak Bagans and the Ghost Adventures crew are answering calls for help in a new eight-part series on discovery+.
In Ghost Adventures: House Calls, the team responds to frightened homeowners as Bagans supervises remotely. In the first episode, newlyweds Matt and Christina are urged to flee their home after the investigators encounter several malevolent entities.
The couple’s Long Beach cottage was purchased by Matt’s grandparents in the 1950s, and he has lived there for the last 12 years. The paranormal activity on the property began decades ago when the family attempted to install an in-ground pool in the backyard.
When workers began digging, they hit red bricks about two feet underground. As they continued to work, they realized they had disturbed a WWII-era bomb shelter.
Almost immediately, paranormal activity around the home increased, and Matt’s grandparents came to believe that the ghost of a WWII soldier haunts the backyard. The dark presence in the backyard has rendered a beautiful outdoor space into a sinister wasteland, and it torments Matt and Christina just as it tormented his grandparents.
“Even if there’s lights, it still feels like it’s just pitch black,” Matt explained.
Inside the home, a spirit has attached itself to Matt and has done its best to drive a wedge between him and his wife. Matt regularly sees shadow figures around the small home and skeletal faces on the walls, and it’s common for objects to move and cabinets to open and shut by themselves. After Matt’s grandmother died in the home, the paranormal activity increased.
One night as the couple laid in bed, Christina awoke to Matt thrashing in his sleep. When she woke him up, he felt a burning on his back and had three visible scratch marks on his shoulder. Christina no longer stays in the bedroom — any time she walks in there, she feels like she should leave. Matt, however, feels drawn to the bedroom and spends hours in there alone.
“Whatever’s here now is definitely dark and it’s oppressive. I know that for a fact,” Matt said.
As the overnight investigation begins, the spirits in the house make their presence known. Immediately, the cameras capture strange mist in the photos, and the SLS camera catches an entity clawing at crew member Aaron’s shoulder, arm, and mouth before disappearing. Another smaller entity appeared to stand on his shoulder.
As the crew attempts to question the entity, it begins swearing at them.
Bagans tries to drive the spirit out of the home before ultimately issuing this advice to Matt and Christine: “Get out.”
