Retired NYPD Homicide Detective Steve DiSchiavi and psychic medium Amy Allan team up to help terrified families identify the spirits who haunt them by conducting independent investigations into the physical and supernatural aspects of the case. Here are some of the moments that made our jaws drop from season 14.
Episode 7: Hell’s Kitchen
Two South Carolina business owners contact Steve and Amy because they fear a paranormal entity in their restaurant is set to destroy their marriage and their business. Steve learns that the restaurant is located on a former plantation site as well as being near the site where a local musician was murdered in 1988. Despite a detective’s dogged work, a motive for the killing was never established. As Amy walks the property, she senses the spirit of the murdered musician as well as the spirit of the murderer, who was found not guilty by reason of insanity.
Episode 4: Ruptured
Amy and Steve work to help four generations of family members who have all seen an evil entity in the home they share. The adults are particularly afraid for the youngest member of the family — a baby girl — as the spirit seems particularly drawn to her. During her walk-through, Amy encounters a shadow person that immediately makes her feel extremely depressed and brings her to tears. As Steve dives into the history of the property, he realizes that the home was the site of a 1948 suicide, where a teenaged boy killed himself and was discovered by his siblings. The coroner initially believed it was a murder, but the sheriff disagreed. The case is still considered unsolved.
Episode 6: Darkness Calls
It doesn’t take Amy long to realize that one half of a couple has somehow allowed an evil energy into their home. There is an apparent portal in the basement where she senses that trapped spirits are screaming and crying in torment. The women who live in the home tell Amy and Steve that they’ve seen cabinets and doors open, and objects are regularly moved around the house. The evil energy is taking a toll on their marriage as it causes intrusive thoughts and intense remorse. Will Steve’s investigation give them any answers about the source of the paranormal activity?
Episode 9: Sudden Awakening
Multiple spirits lurking in a home where a suicide occured lead a woman to fear that her family is in grave danger. As Steve investigates, he realizes that the home was also the site of a plane crash where a novice pilot died after flying too low and slow as he attempted to wave to his father on the ground below. Amy senses at least two spirits in the home, including a young man who can’t close his mouth and a tall man who torments the family as they try to sleep.
Episode 2: The Thing
Amy physically feels pain as she investigates a haunted house. The home was surrounded by tragedy as it was built near the site of a cemetery where strange rituals were conducted. There was also a triple murder in 1916 on a nearby ranch when a ranch hand killed the ranch’s owner, his wife, and their infant daughter by striking them all with the same metal pipe. He then moved the bodies into one room, doused them in kerosene, and lit a match. The killer admitted to his crimes when he was arrested and was hanged following a guilty verdict. Amy believes it could be victims from the fire who haunt the family.
